35 Weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your baby doesn't have much room to maneuver now that he's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (pick up a honeydew melon). Because it's so snug in your womb, he isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times he kicks should remain about the same. His kidneys are fully developed now, and his liver can process some waste products. Most of his basic physical development is now complete — he'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.

The Fifth Annual Puppy Easter Egg Hunt

Final Score:
Hank - 11
Dagny - 6

Hank won again this year. Surprise! This year, as soon as they saw me get out the eggs, they knew exactly what was happening. And, whereas "the hunt" used to take 20-30 minutes, it only took about 5 minutes this year . . . Trey has no chance.

34 Weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long.

His fat layers — which will help regulate his body temperature once he's born — are filling him out, making him rounder. His skin is also smoother than ever. His central nervous system is maturing and his lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you've been nervous about preterm labor, you'll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.

33 Weeks

How your baby's growing?

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark.

He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

Comments for Colleen:

  • We had to reschedule our appointment with the pediatrician, but I met the doctor's hubby the other night at work. Everyone says they are "the best" in their respective positions, so I'm sure it will work out great!
  • This weekend, we are putting together the car seat, stroller, etc. And, I plan on clearing out the closet in the second bedroom. Lookie what we've done so far (and, it only took half an hour and 14 years of upper level education)!
  • We have a doctor's appointment on Monday. We are starting to actually have questions for her, such as:
  1. Our Lamaze instructor (we started last week) said that the movement I've been feeling for months (the shoving with all four limbs at the same time) are Braxton Hicks contractions. I think this sounds kinda nuts, so I kinda don't want to ask Dr., but I also kinda want to know . . .
  2. I got a pedicure yesterday, and the woman doing it commented, "I'm sorry I can't do everything with you that I normally would." She started talking about all the places on a pregnant woman's lower limbs that one shouldn't press too hard. I knew the calf thing (blood clots) and should have thought about it, but she also says that it is possible to induce labor by pressing on a spot right behind the ankles. I'm thinking: "uh huh, crazy hippy woman." She said it can also make your feel like you have to urinate if you press there, and pedicure's always make me feel like I am about to go! Dr. Colleen says their might be something to it, so I might just make an appointment for June, just in case!
  3. A few other, more relevant, ones.

Last Hiking Trip for a While

Today, we went up to Mount Lemmon with a friend and the pups.
I'm a little bit bigger than on our last hiking trip, eh?

Trey's Crib

The crib arrived today. Isn't is gorgeous!?
The delivery men arrived early - imagine that, delivery men early! - and set it up for us. They said that they deliver a lot of PB cribs and that this one was particularly sturdy; sounds good to me!

P.S. Glance in the mirror and you can see my mess, including the "travel system" (aka stroller and car seat) box that WILL get put together this week.

32 Weeks

I know this picture is a little blurry, but Hank just came and sat down right as it clicked, and I couldn't get him to do it again!

How's baby growing?

By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus.

You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, he'll gain a third to half of his birth weight during the next 7 weeks as he fattens up for survival outside the womb. He now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair (or at least respectable peach fuzz). His skin is becoming soft and smooth as he plumps up in preparation for birth.

Ok, I like the "kicking;" but, this cartoon seems to be a more accurate representation of what Trey does (bouncing and rolling around):Comments for Colleen:
This week is going to be a big week. We will start Lamaze class and meet the pediatrician. We are also going to go pick out paint and put together the car seat/stroller (unless it rains, of course . . . Arizona people don't go outside if it is raining). Anyway, I'd like to do something like the picture below, but we'll see how quickly I give up on that one.
Anyway, I've started packing my hospital bag, although it seems kinda silly since we only 5 minutes away from the hospital. Lastly, we are planning on taking one more hiking trip (and introducing Eric to hiking, or "our" version of hiking at least), although I'm still trying to convince Patrick we can go on our regular route (here). We also need to pick curtains at some point, but my dilemma is threefold. One, we are just gonna use tension rods because the walls here are almost impossible to nail into, which is limiting. Two, do I need to block out all the light, or not? Three, I don't know how to hang a curtain! These are my favorites in terms of look. These look pretty cute and are much cheaper than Pottery Barn but kinda boring, and these are good because they have a blackout liner, but I don't think they would look good hanging from a tension rod . . . This kinda seems like a grandma job.

P.S. Hank checked another Marley and Me item off of our list. Remember the scene where Marley runs through the open house and jumps in the pool? - "Whose dog is that?" (see 1:49) Well, about a month ago, when Patrick was taking out the trash, Hank slipped into the alley. The folks a few houses down were having an open house, and their gate was open. Hank decided they needed his help, so he bust in and jumped into their pool! Awesome.

Patrick stuck around to great guests and then made his exit
Measuring the Tummy
The winner? A NICU nurse . . . imagine that!
Yummy!

Present Time!
Allison taught me how to put this on a teddy bear after the shower, and I can now put it on a stuffed giraffe and cat!
Yeah, they went there.
I'd never read this book before, but Hank and I have been practicing. He sits next to me on the bed, listens, and looks at the book, but he usually falls asleep by the end. Hank is also very intrigued by the Sophie Giraffe Teether. Dagny doesn't seem to be very interested in baby toys (imagine that), but Hank has to be kept out of the second bedroom because he does not understand why I am stockpiling squeaky, jingling things yet keeping them from him. How rude, eh!
The never-ending box from Lala:
A fedora . . . It is now affectionately referred to as a piece of the "Charlie Sheen outfit." I expected nothing less from you! Bring on the desert sun.
