(Catalina Highway is the road up to Mount Lemmon/Summerhaven)P.S. Currently listening to conversation after conversation similar to this one:
"Hi, hun" . . . "Is it raining there?" . . . "Oh, no, it is?! Well, do you really need to go out?" . . . "Yeah, okay. Well, be very careful. It is RAINING."

Oh Arizona.

Merry Christmas!!!

17 Weeks

How your baby's growing: Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now, about as much as a turnip (no, I don't know where they get these crazy-sized vegetables), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

Lunar Eclipse

Here is a pic from the beginning of the eclipse last night. Tucson had partly cloudy skies (extensive news coverage anytime that happens), so P woke me up (because I was tired and he doesn't sleep anyway) for the beginning and the middle because it was visible. Although I couldn't see the middle part as well, I thought this picture came out great!

Week 16

How your baby's growing? Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

How your life's changing? Soon you'll experience one of the most wonderful moments of pregnancy — feeling your baby move. While some women notice "quickening" as early as 16 weeks, many don't feel their baby move until about 18 weeks or more. (And if this is your first baby, don't be too impatient — you may not be aware of your baby's movements until 20 weeks or so.) The earliest movements may feel like little flutters, gas bubbles, or even like popcorn popping. Over the following weeks they'll grow stronger and you'll be able to feel them much more frequently.

Mmmmmm . . . Peanut Butter

Like mother, like Dagny
P.S. In spite of this picture, when Dagny and Hank went to vet to get shots on Monday, they were pronounced a "healthy weight" (and Hank did not pee on the scale - yeah!). I guess it's easy to diet when someone else has complete control over your eating.

Week 15

If you are one of the three people who read my blog, you already know Patrick and I are expecting a child June 4th! We went a week ago (Week 14) and heard the heart beat, which was great for us, but Baby R did not appreciate it, giving the wand a kick!

Here's a quick recap . . .

Week 5:
I brought this home for Patrick "Little Boots . . . Why did you buy Hank little boots?" - Patrick
It took a minute, but he figured it out. Week 10:
Weekend with the Gals in Alabama

Week 12 UltrasoundBaby R did not appreciate this activity either, going into what Patrick dubbed "spider monkey pose" and then squirming away.
Week 15:
How your baby's growing? Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple).
She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! (Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods.") http://www.babycenter.com/

Kittens, Kitttens, Everywhere!

October 2010

In October, I opened up the front door to find three tiny kittens on the doorstep - seriously, sitting right on the front porch. We're not sure, but we did hear a cat scream the night before, so we are pretty sure their mama was killed by a coyote who came up from the wash. "We" (aka Patrick) were only able to catch two of them at first. A few days later, he was finally able to catch the third one after setting up a variety of traps. I named them Bubba (the one with the white), Willlingham (changed to Wilbur when our friend adopted him), and Newman (the third one). Bubba, because that is the one Adam chose to be his temporary namesake, was the most playful and the biggest eater. Willingham was named such because he is a pretty boy. Newman was named such because he was the "New Man" of the bunch (and he was kinda a dud, like the Seinfeld character).

The first two kittens . . . still pretty freaked out
All three with their rescuer
Willingham (aka Wilbur) goofing around
Bubba and Willingham (aka Wilbur)
Fluff Ball
Dinner Time!
Below is the MAIN reason (among a few others!) that keeping the kittens was NOT an option. Hank and Dagny did this (staring, not moving, just staring) for a week straight. They didn't sleep, they just stared.
One of the three was adopted by a friend. The other two we took to a shelter. It is good we held on to them for a while, however, because the shelter said that they were only just big and healthy enough to be adopted. We called for an update, and they were both adopted within a week!

The sound is Patrick sneezing. The kitten that doesn't care is Bubba . . .

Doggie Diet

August 2010When we went to the vet last spring, he said the dogs were a little overweight. Well, they've gained even more since then! In August, Hank was almost 60 pounds, so they are now on a little diet!
